"Cabai" means Chili (of genus capsicum)

Many chili heads asked me, does "cabai" means chili or pepper?

To clear some confusion about the usage of "cabai" in chili peppers. The word "Cabai" refers to Chili (Malaysia/Indonesia) that are of capsicum genus.

As for the long pepper, natives in south east asia name them (Cabai/Cabe Jawa) because of the heat they produce (with no relation to capsicum). Long pepper is of piper genus.
